Vicente created lyrical color field paintings and collages with soft-edged forms and subtle harmonies that emphasized contemplation over action. As a member of the New York School, he brought European sensibility to American abstraction. His work is held by the Whitney, MoMA, and the Esteban Vicente Museum.
