Captain Linnaeus Tripe (1822–1902) was a British Army officer and pioneering photographer who made significant contributions to documentary photography in India and Burma during the 1850s. Serving as an official photographer for the East India Company and the British government, he produced meticulous large-format photographs of architecture, landscapes, and ancient monuments, particularly during the British mission to the Court of Ava in Burma (1855) and his tenure as Photographer to the Madras Government (1856–1860). His technically accomplished and aesthetically refined work is recognized as among the most important documentary photography of the Victorian era.
