Bruce Bernard (1928, 2000) was a British photo editor, photography historian, and occasional photographer who played a pivotal role in shaping how photography was presented and understood as a fine art in the 20th century. He served as picture editor at The Sunday Times Magazine and was a close friend and collaborator of Lucian Freud, John Deakin, and the Soho bohemian circle. Bernard was instrumental in championing documentary and portrait photography, and he compiled influential books including the landmark anthology 'Century' and a celebrated monograph on Lucian Freud.
