Arthur Garfield Dove (1880–1946) was an American modernist painter widely regarded as one of the first artists to create purely abstract works in the United States. He drew inspiration from nature, translating organic forms and rhythms into bold, simplified shapes and earthy tones. Dove spent much of his later life living on a houseboat in Long Island, deeply connecting his art to the natural world around him.
