Arie Smit (1916–2016) was a Dutch-born Indonesian painter who became one of the most celebrated artists associated with Bali, where he spent the majority of his long life. He is widely credited with founding the Young Artists movement in Ubud during the 1960s, encouraging local Balinese children to paint with bold colors and expressive freedom. His own work is characterized by vibrant tropical landscapes, village scenes, and richly colored depictions of Balinese daily life.
