Alexander Roitburd

Alexander Roitburd is a prominent Ukrainian contemporary artist born in 1961 in Odessa, known for his large-scale, expressive paintings that blend figuration with abstraction, drawing on art historical references and mythology. His energetic, gestural style incorporates vibrant color and complex layering, engaging with themes of desire, beauty, and the tension between classical tradition and contemporary culture. Roitburd is one of the most significant figures in post-Soviet Ukrainian art and has served as director of the Odessa Fine Arts Museum.
