Bernard Aubertin

Bernard Aubertin (1934–2015) was a French artist closely associated with the ZERO movement, known for his radical use of fire, nails, and matches as primary artistic media. He became celebrated for his 'Tableaux de Feux' (Fire Paintings), in which he burned matchsticks or applied fire directly to surfaces to create vivid red monochromatic works pulsating with energy and destruction. His practice explored the intersection of material transformation, monochrome aesthetics, and performance, placing him among key figures in post-war European avant-garde art.
