Joan Hernández Pijuan (1931–2005) was a celebrated Catalan painter known for his lyrical, minimalist approach to landscape, reducing natural forms to their essential elements through subtle color fields and gestural marks. His work evolved from figurative painting toward a refined abstraction that evoked the Catalan countryside, fields of flowers, and the passage of light with great economy of means. Considered one of the most important Spanish painters of the postwar generation, he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas in Spain and gained significant international recognition.
