Thomas Ruff's *Jpeg NY06* is a large-scale chromogenic print face-mounted to Plexiglas that investigates the nature of digital image compression and photographic representation. Ruff appropriated low-resolution internet images of New York City and enlarged them to a monumental scale, revealing the abstract, pixelated grid that underlies the jpeg format.
