William Christenberry

William Christenberry (1936–2016) was an American artist celebrated for his deeply personal documentation of the rural American South, particularly Hale County, Alabama, where he grew up. Working across photography, sculpture, painting, and assemblage, he created an ongoing visual and emotional record of the region's vernacular architecture, landscapes, and cultural memory over several decades.
