Walter Ufer (1876–1936) was an American painter celebrated for his vivid, light-drenched depictions of Pueblo Indian life in New Mexico, particularly around Taos. A member of the Taos Society of Artists, he was known for his bold use of sunlight and his empathetic, dignified portrayals of Native American subjects. His work achieved considerable commercial and critical success during his lifetime, with paintings frequently appearing in major exhibitions and commanding strong prices at auction.
