Umbo (1902, 1980), born Otto Umbehr, was a pioneering German photographer and key figure of the Weimar-era avant-garde, closely associated with the Bauhaus and the New Vision movement. Known for his dynamic photomontages, experimental portraits, and dramatic use of shadow and perspective, he worked extensively as a photojournalist for the Dephot (Deutscher Photodienst) agency alongside figures like Robert Capa and Felix Man. His innovative compositional techniques and psychological intensity made him one of the most influential photographers of the 1920s and 1930s.
