Simon Norfolk is a British documentary photographer and war photographer known for his large-format landscape images that explore the aftermath of conflict, militarism, and the architecture of war. His work examines battlefields, ruins, and sites of geopolitical tension with a painterly, often eerily beautiful aesthetic that draws on the tradition of classical landscape painting. He is particularly celebrated for his series on Afghanistan, including 'Burke + Norfolk,' which revisited sites photographed by 19th-century photographer John Burke, and his work has been widely exhibited and published internationally.
