Rose Wylie is a British painter known for her large-scale, exuberantly gestural canvases that draw on cinema, sport, art history, and everyday observation. Her distinctive style blends naive figuration with bold mark-making, text, and fragmented narratives, creating works that feel simultaneously childlike and intellectually sophisticated. Despite gaining widespread recognition only in her seventies, she has become one of the most celebrated British painters of her generation, winning the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award in 2011 and the John Moores Painting Prize in 2014.
