Caulfield was a painter known for his simplified, outlined images of interiors, still lifes, and landscapes rendered in flat, unmixed colors. His sophisticated works combined Pop Art's graphic clarity with subtle painterly passages and art historical references. His paintings are held in major collections including Tate Britain, and a major retrospective was held at Tate Britain in 2013.
