Galán created neo-figurative paintings combining Mexican folk art, Catholic iconography, and surrealist imagery with autobiographical themes of identity and desire. His richly textured canvases influenced Latin American contemporary art. His work is held by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and was featured in major exhibitions at the Guggenheim and Americas Society.
