Cuevas was a draftsman, printmaker, and painter who rejected Mexican Muralism in favor of expressionistic, often grotesque figurative work. His drawings and prints explored themes of isolation, sexuality, and the human condition with aggressive line work. He exhibited internationally and his work is in collections including the MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum.
