Hsiao Chin (born 1935 in Shanghai) is a pioneering Taiwanese abstract painter who has spent much of his career in Europe, particularly Italy and Spain, becoming one of the most internationally recognized Asian abstract artists of his generation. His vibrant, large-scale canvases draw on Eastern philosophical concepts—particularly Taoism and Zen Buddhism—fused with Western abstract expressionist and gestural painting traditions. A co-founder of the influential Punto movement in Milan in 1961, Hsiao has exhibited globally for over six decades and is celebrated for his luminous use of color and spiritual energy in abstraction.
