Françoise Gilot (1921–2023) was a French painter celebrated for her vibrant, expressive works that drew on Cubism, Surrealism, and Mediterranean color traditions, forging a distinctive modernist language entirely her own. She studied law before committing fully to painting, and her long-term relationship with Pablo Picasso brought her international attention, though her artistic output and vision remained fiercely independent. Her memoir 'Life with Picasso' (1964) and decades of prolific studio practice cemented her legacy as a significant figure in twentieth-century Western art.
