Bernardo Bellotto (1721, 1780) was an Italian painter and printmaker renowned for his highly detailed vedute (cityscape paintings) of European cities, including Dresden, Vienna, Warsaw, and Turin. A nephew and pupil of Canaletto, he inherited and refined his uncle's precise architectural style, often using a camera obscura to achieve extraordinary topographical accuracy. His panoramic views of Warsaw were so meticulously detailed that they were used as reference documents during the city's reconstruction after World War II.
