Antonio Calderara (1903–1978) was an Italian painter who evolved from figurative work to a deeply meditative form of geometric abstraction, becoming one of the most refined voices in Italian Concrete and Optical art. His works are characterized by subtle luminous fields of color, precise geometric forms, and an almost spiritual quality of light and silence. Self-taught and working largely in isolation in Vacciago on Lake Orta, he gained international recognition in the 1960s for his intimate, contemplative paintings that explored the relationship between color, light, and space.
