Marc Riboud (1923–2016) was a renowned French photojournalist celebrated for his humanistic documentary photography that captured pivotal moments of the 20th century across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. He was one of the first Western photographers to document China after the Communist Revolution and became famous for iconic images such as 'The Painter of the Eiffel Tower' (1953). A longtime member of Magnum Photos, Riboud's work is distinguished by its poetic composition, quiet observation, and profound empathy for his subjects.
