Peter Beard

Peter Beard (1938–2020) was an American artist, photographer, and diarist best known for his intimate and visually striking documentation of African wildlife and landscape, particularly in Kenya. His distinctive mixed-media works combined photography with handwritten diary entries, blood, pressed flowers, animal prints, and collage, creating layered visual narratives that blurred the line between art and personal journal. Beard was a significant cultural figure who used his art to raise awareness about the destruction of African ecosystems and the decline of wildlife populations.
