My Marilyn
A pioneering work of British Pop Art, Richard Hamilton's *My Marilyn* employs the visual language of mass media and celebrity culture, presenting a series of photographic images of Marilyn Monroe that she herself had marked up with crosses and annotations before her death. Hamilton transforms these discarded contact-sheet photographs into a vibrant screenprint, layering bold colour over the black-and-white imagery to explore themes of self-image, commodification, and the construction of female identity. The work stands as a poignant meditation on fame, control, and vulnerability, capturing the tension between public persona and private self.
