Femme, femmme, femm, fem, fe... (in 3 parts)
Wang Du's large-scale sculptural work constructs a fragmented, distorted female figure from resin, polyester, and acrylic paint, evoking the fractured and sensationalized representations of women found in mass media. The work's fragmented title mirrors the physical dissolution of the form itself, suggesting a body and identity perpetually in the process of being consumed, reproduced, and erased by contemporary image culture. Through his characteristic transformation of media imagery into three-dimensional sculptural objects, Wang Du interrogates the flattening and dehumanizing effects of the modern spectacle on the female subject.
