Yuken Teruya is a Japanese artist born in Okinawa who is best known for his intricate paper-cut sculptures made from everyday consumer packaging such as toilet paper rolls and shopping bags, into which he carves delicate trees and natural landscapes. His work explores themes of consumerism, nature, memory, and the cultural identity of Okinawa, drawing on the tension between global capitalism and the natural world. Teruya has exhibited internationally and is recognized for transforming disposable materials into meditative works that prompt reflection on environmental and social issues.
