Vu Cao Dam (1908–2000) was a Vietnamese-French painter who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine in Hanoi before moving to Paris in 1931, where he spent much of his career. He became one of the most celebrated Vietnamese artists of the 20th century, known for his lyrical and tender depictions of Vietnamese women, mother-and-child subjects, and everyday life rendered in a style blending French modernism with Eastern sensibility. His work, often executed in lacquer, oil, and gouache, brought him international recognition and made him a key figure in the Indochinese art movement.
