Vanessa German is an American multidisciplinary artist, poet, and community activist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known for her powerful assemblage sculptures that incorporate found objects, folk art traditions, and Afrocentric imagery to address themes of race, trauma, healing, and Black identity. Her work, often described as 'power figures' or 'love sculptures,' draws on West African spiritual traditions and American vernacular art to create charged, talismanic objects that confront systemic racism and celebrate Black resilience. German has gained significant recognition for both her art practice and her community-centered work, including founding the ARThouse project in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood.
