Tsuyoshi Maekawa (born 1936) is a Japanese artist associated with the Gutai Art Association, the influential postwar avant-garde collective founded by Jiro Yoshihara in Osaka. He is best known for his distinctive textile-based works that incorporate burlap and rope, which he affixes, ties, and binds onto canvas surfaces to create tactile, relief-like compositions that challenge the boundaries between painting and sculpture. His practice is considered significant within the broader context of postwar Japanese art and the international Material Art movement.
