Ron Gorchov

Ron Gorchov (1930–2020) was an American abstract painter known for his distinctive shaped canvases featuring a concave, saddle-like form that he developed in the late 1960s. His work typically featured two central biomorphic or totemic forms painted on these curved supports, creating a tension between painting and sculpture. Gorchov was associated with the New York art scene and his innovative approach to the physical support of painting made him a singular and influential figure in postwar American abstraction.
