Robert Howlett

Robert Howlett (1831–1858) was a pioneering British photographer known for his remarkable documentary and portrait work during the mid-19th century. He is best remembered for his iconic photographs of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and the construction of the SS Great Eastern steamship, images that stand among the most celebrated works of early photography. His technically accomplished work helped establish photography as a serious artistic and documentary medium during a formative period in its history.
