Pyotr Belenok (1938, 1991) was a Ukrainian-born Soviet avant-garde artist known for his distinctive 'panic realism' style, in which small human figures appear to flee across vast, turbulent abstract backgrounds. Working largely outside official Soviet artistic channels, Belenok developed a deeply personal visual language that conveyed existential anxiety, mass hysteria, and the fragility of humanity against overwhelming forces. His work gained significant posthumous recognition in the international auction market, particularly among collectors of Russian and Eastern European nonconformist art.
