Mikhail Chemiakin

Mikhail Chemiakin is a Russian-American artist born in 1943, known for his provocative and symbolically rich works spanning painting, sculpture, and stage design. A leading figure in the nonconformist art movement of Leningrad, he was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1971 and continued his career in Paris and later New York. His work draws on metaphysical themes, folklore, and surrealism, and he is celebrated for major public sculptures including the monument to Peter the Great in St. Petersburg.
