Martin Wong (1946–1999) was an American self-taught painter known for his vivid, narrative depictions of life in New York City's Lower East Side during the 1970s and 1980s. His work captured the gritty urban landscape, including street scenes, tenement buildings, and the vibrant subcultures of punk, Latino community life, and the early graffiti art movement. Wong was also a passionate collector of graffiti art and ephemera, amassing a significant archive that he donated to the Museum of the City of New York.
