Jasper Francis Cropsey (1823–1900) was a prominent American landscape painter celebrated for his vivid autumnal scenes of the Hudson River Valley and Appalachian region. A key figure of the Hudson River School, Cropsey was renowned for his dramatic use of color, particularly his bold oranges and golds that captured the brilliance of American autumn foliage. He also worked as an architect and was deeply influenced by the pastoral ideals championed by his mentor Thomas Cole.
