Jane Freilicher was a second-generation New York School painter known for her luminous landscapes and still lifes that bridged abstraction and representation. Working from her studios in Manhattan and Water Mill, Long Island, she created intimate paintings of windows, gardens, and coastal scenes that combined observational painting with a sophisticated understanding of color and composition. Her work was championed by poets John Ashbery and Frank O'Hara, and she exhibited widely including at Tibor de Nagy Gallery for over five decades, earning recognition as a key figure in American postwar painting.
