Goldstein created paintings of isolated, spectacular imagery like lightning and explosions rendered in dramatic lighting against dark backgrounds. A member of the Pictures Generation who influenced Neo-Expressionism, his work is held by MoMA, Whitney Museum, and MOCA Los Angeles. His synthesis of appropriation and painterly drama bridged conceptual and expressive practices.
