Harold Eugene 'Doc' Edgerton (1903–1990) was an American scientist, engineer, and photographer who pioneered the use of stroboscopic photography to freeze high-speed motion in stunning visual detail. A professor at MIT, he developed the electronic flash and used it to capture iconic images such as a bullet piercing an apple and a drop of milk forming a coronet, blurring the boundary between scientific inquiry and artistic expression. His work is celebrated both for its technical innovation and its extraordinary aesthetic beauty, making him a seminal figure in the history of photography.
