Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (1793–1865) was an Austrian painter celebrated for his luminous depictions of Austrian peasant life, landscapes of the Salzkammergut region, and intimate portrait works. A leading figure of the Biedermeier period, he was known for his meticulous attention to natural light and botanical detail. His work was frequently controversial during his lifetime due to his outspoken criticism of academic art education in Vienna.
