Eugène Fromentin (1820, 1876) was a French Orientalist painter and writer celebrated for his luminous depictions of North African landscapes, desert scenes, and Algerian life. Having traveled extensively to Algeria and Egypt, he captured the light, color, and atmosphere of the Maghreb with exceptional skill and sensitivity. He is also renowned as an art critic and novelist, most notably for his influential work 'Les Maîtres d'autrefois' (1876).
