Enrico Donati (1909, 2008) was an Italian-American Surrealist painter known for his textured, abstract works that bridged Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. Born in Milan, he moved to New York in 1934 where he became closely associated with André Breton and the Surrealist circle. His later works, particularly his 'Paleolithic' series, featured richly encrusted surfaces evoking prehistoric matter and cosmic energy.
