Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879–1933) was the preeminent French furniture designer and decorator of the Art Deco period, widely regarded as the last great ébéniste in the tradition of French luxury craftsmanship. Known for his exquisitely refined cabinetry featuring rare and exotic materials such as amboyna wood, ivory, and shagreen, his work epitomized the elegance and opulence of the 1920s Parisian haute bourgeoisie. Ruhlmann's designs, celebrated for their restrained ornamentation, tapering legs, and superb proportions, were showcased at the landmark 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, cementing his legacy as the defining master of Art Deco furniture.
