Edward Lear (1812–1888) was a British artist, illustrator, author, and poet, best known for his whimsical nonsense literature and limericks, as well as his detailed ornithological and landscape illustrations. He traveled extensively across Europe, the Middle East, and India, producing thousands of topographical drawings and oil paintings that were widely admired in Victorian England. His auction sales frequently feature his travel watercolors, pencil sketches, and illustrations from works such as 'A Book of Nonsense.'
