Carl Haag (1820, 1915) was a German-born British watercolourist celebrated for his luminous Orientalist scenes depicting the Middle East, Egypt, and the Holy Land, which he visited extensively in the 1850s and 1860s. He became a prominent member of the Old Watercolour Society and was appointed court painter to Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. His meticulous attention to light, architecture, and local costume made him one of the most distinguished Orientalist painters of the Victorian era.
