Bhupen Khakhar was a painter whose narrative works depicted Indian middle-class life, sexuality, and the everyday with vivid color and satirical observation. His celebrated paintings include 'You Can't Please All' and 'Two Men in Benares,' which openly addressed homosexuality in Indian art. He had major retrospectives at Tate Modern and Reina Sofia, and significantly influenced contemporary Indian painting.
