Alexander Kosolapov is a Russian-born conceptual artist who emigrated to New York in 1975, where he became a prominent figure in the Sots Art movement — the Soviet equivalent of Western Pop Art. His work critically appropriates and juxtaposes iconic symbols of Soviet propaganda with Western consumer culture imagery, famously combining logos like Coca-Cola and McDonald's with Soviet iconography and figures such as Lenin. His provocative and often darkly humorous works challenge ideological systems, consumerism, and the semiotics of power.
