Leon Levinstein

Leon Levinstein (1910–1988) was an American street photographer renowned for his raw, visceral images of New York City life, particularly capturing marginalized communities, Coney Island crowds, and urban humanity with unflinching intimacy. His bold use of wide-angle lenses and close physical proximity to his subjects produced emotionally charged compositions that set him apart from his contemporaries. Despite working in relative obscurity during his lifetime, his work has gained significant critical recognition posthumously through retrospectives and auction sales.
