Leda Catunda is a Brazilian contemporary artist born in 1961 in São Paulo, where she continues to live and work. She emerged in the 1980s as part of the influential Brazilian Neo-Expressionist generation known as 'Geração 80,' celebrated for reinvigorating painting in Brazil. Her practice is characterized by the use of unconventional materials such as synthetic fabrics, velvet, and blankets as supports, onto which she paints playful, colorful, and often biomorphic or pop-inflected imagery that blurs the boundaries between painting, textile, and everyday objects.
