Anthony Friedkin is an American photographer born in 1949, widely recognized for his intimate and empathetic documentary photography exploring subcultures and marginalized communities in America. He is perhaps best known for his seminal series 'The Gay Essay' (1969–1972), a pioneering body of work documenting LGBTQ+ life in Los Angeles before the mainstream visibility of gay culture. His work has been exhibited internationally and collected by major museums, with prints regularly appearing at auction houses including Swann Galleries and Heritage Auctions.
