"His and Hers" by Genesis Belanger is a two part sculptural work crafted from stoneware and embellished with oil painted manicure details, playing with gendered conventions around personal grooming and bodily presentation. The work uses ceramics as a vehicle to examine how beauty standards and aesthetic rituals are coded by gender, transforming functional ceramic forms into commentary on identity and consumption. By pairing masculine and feminine versions and applying painted nail art to the stoneware surfaces, Belanger creates a witty yet pointed exploration of how we construct and display gendered selves through everyday practices.
